The Oral Health International Foundation Provides Funding to Global Dental Relief to Support Guatemala Dental Clinics
With financial support from the Oral Health International Foundation, Global Dental Relief (GDR) held two successful week-long clinics in Chimaltenango, Guatemala. Clinics were held in partnership with Children’s International, a nonprofit dedicated to serving children living in poverty and providing access to health care, educational resources, and programs in safe, clean spaces.
A total of 1,105 children received dental care, often the first dental care in young students’ lives. Upon arrival, they received oral health instruction in their local language. Emphasis was on teaching them the importance of brushing their teeth twice a day and giving them a new toothbrush.
After instruction, the children entered the clinic for a dental exam and any restorative work, cleanings, or extractions needed. Children returned for follow-up care during the clinic week until all required dental care was complete. Working together, GDR volunteers, supported by the Foundation, restored these children's dental health, giving them a better chance to overcome the challenges of their daily circumstances.
